SeaWorld on a Sunday in San Antonio, Texas

The year was 1988 and my oldest daughter was just 2 years old. SeaWorld had officially opened in San Antonio, Texas. I was so excited to take my daughter and get lost in the park. I knew the visits would be many the moment we stepped in the world of the Sea. It was so magical, from the marine life to the amusement rides. I was happy to make memories for my daughter.  Many years have passed since my first visit.  My oldest is now a mommy herself with a 6 year old daughter who has become my partner in adventure. We decided on a Sunday for a funday with the family.

I was going to take on the task of entertaining not only my granddaughter, but my niece and nephew as well. Along for some support was my younger brother who last minute decided to join me as an extra adult, good call!

Rule number one in visiting any park should be a map and a plan. We were lucky enough to have two adorable volunteers for the job. Once they decided where we should go, we were off!

Did you know … that for more than 50 years SeaWorld has been a leading theme park and entertainment company delivering personal, interactive and educational experiences that blend imagination with nature enabling their guest to celebrate with and care for the natural world they share. Countless rides for all ages, shows to engage our hearts and mind and exhibits from conservation to personal interactions with Dolphins, Beluga Whales and Sea lions at SeaWorld Discovery Point.

A good pair of walking shoes a cool hat and hydration will make the day just a little smoother. Did I mention that they do have a height requirement for all rides and if your lucky enough you can make it extra adventurous. But no worries if your not tall enough because there is plenty to keep the family busy, requirements or not : ).

The kids, hands down, loved the Sesame Street Bay of Play. The kids were able to cool down with bubblers, geysers, jets and dumping water buckets. The Sesame Street friends are also out and about for great photo opportunities.

It’s also a great spot for the “adults” to relax. Keep in mind that you will want to take some sunscreen for the family and don’t hesitate to lather it on. If you forget, not a problem, plenty of souvenir shops around.

I officially became a cool aunt with the kids asking when we could do this again! I smiled, my day was complete. Thank you Sea World for the memories and we can’t wait to return. Maybe next time … Aquatica waterpark.

Fitfunand … Sunday Funday!

Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post but I was provided with entry passes to the park. I sincerely had a great time there and just had to share my own opinion and excitement for the park.

#TexasParks: Take a Hike Y’all!

I love Texas where just about any road trip leads you to a nearby river, lake or spring. The Texas heat can get pretty brutal so a park with water to dive, dip or swim, is a must for me. Thank you Texas for having some amazing watering holes!

The National Park Service turns 100 on August 25, 2016. This centennial will kick off a second century of stewardship in America’s parks which will engage communities through recreation, conservation, and historic preservation programs.

We have all been invited to Find Your Park on a national level and to explore programs in our own backyard.

My “backyard” is the Texas Hill Country. Texas is my state, born and raised!  A 25-county region of Central Texas and South Texas. The Hill Country reaches into portions of the two metropolitan areas, especially in San Antonio’s northern suburbs and the western half of Travis County, ending southwest of Downtown Austin.

A perfect road trip would include family, friends, hills, river fun and if i’m really lucky a winery or two : ).

I do have some favorite parks that made the “must visit because Josie said” list : )! These beautiful outdoor parks are in no particular order because each park is unique in what is has to offer. Local Parks, State Parks, National Parks or the ever popular Texas watering holes. I am happy to share some of these outdoor gems with you, because after all … Sharing is caring!

Texas parks have my heart. I am never disappointed but I would be if I hadn’t wandered. Big Bend was the biggest and definitely the most challenging for me so far in terms of the terrain but it left me wanting more. I know in my heart I will be going back and I will set no boundaries for the open spaces that nurture my soul and make me smile ear to ear : ). The more I discover the more I uncover … my happy place, Outdoors!

The Casa Blanca Santikos Theatre Experience + A chance to Win 4 Santikos Theatre VIP passes

21dc95f5-b4ca-43ca-9b2b-10df806b7e76

I was excited to hear that Santikos Entertainment had officially opened up Casa Blanca Theatre. This Entertainment venue is like no other in San Antonio and the surrounding areas. The Casa Blanca is located at Highway 151 and Alamo Ranch Parkway, just outside of Loop 1604 and is the first 100% laser digital projection theatre in the world using Barco Laser Projection. This means, better picture clarity, better color saturation and a three times brighter image for the best movie experience available anywhere.

If you think this is pretty cool, I’m not done boasting! The net result of dollars spent on movie tickets and amenities goes back into the local community in the form of donation, sponsorships, grants and programming to educate, cure, support and enhance the life within the community. This is part of the estate of the late John L. Santikos, the theatre group was gifted to the San Antonio Area Foundation and is the largest single charitable donation in the history of San Antonio and one of the largest in the United States in 2015.  Through operation of the theatres, $12 million will be given to the community in 2016 and is estimated to grow to $20 million a year. WOW!

You can watch a movie anywhere but if you choose a Santikos theatre, you become part of a charitable legacy reinvesting back into the community. The only theatre group that exists for the sole purpose of supporting the community.

I grew up in San Antonio and the Santikos theatre that has the most memories for me was the now historic and beloved Southside landmark Mission Drive-In. The outdoor theatre was built in 1948 by Louis and John Santikos. You had 4 movies to decide on because there were 4 screens, YES! The speakers were huge and would sit on the window of the car. The screens appeared huge to us kids and it seemed like it never got dark quick enough for the movie to start. Popcorn was my favorite treat and to this day it’s the first thing I order at any movie theatre, extra butter please!

The Casa Blanca was the last theatre designed by the late John Santikos. Two generations of family committed to incredible entertainment experiences. A legacy~NO DOUBT!

Date nights, family nights and at times “just me” night. Santikos has never disappointed. So if your ready to head out for a movie and then some … Casa Blanca Theatre.

Thank you Santikos Entertainment for sponsoring this post. No worries, all opinions are solely my own.

I can’t imagine you not wanting to be a part of this legacy so enter now for your chance to WIN 4 Santikos VIP passes! Good luck!

There was no question as to where we would go the first week of summer … Splashtown!

PhotoGrid_1465611125947

Splashtown has over 50 rides and attractions and is San Antonio’s favorite family waterpark with over 20 acres of water fun! It’s the 32nd season for the park and is located just 3 minutes north of downtown San Antonio. A family waterpark that has something for everyone! I had so much fun playing with my precious granddaughter and my “almost teenager” nephew. The park was all age appropriate with a lazy river that was perfectly named. The slides were endless with easy access for the kids as they splashed throughout the park.
